I'm starting my new blog tag of Sri Lanka 2009. This is the newest although the Sri Lanka 2006 and Sri Lanka 2004 pages are long since built. There's a 'catch-all' page simply called Sri Lanka too. This addition means that the planning stage of this autumn's trip has begun in earnest. I was looking at Internet sites related to the trip which will take place during September and October. We'll only stay on the island one month of the six-week break this year. We have done a great deal of travelling during our past several trips, so I doubt we'll be making many long journeys this year.
I always tended to enjoy the upcountry of Sri Lanka. You know, I fell in love with the crisp air of mountainous tea estates. The towns of Dehiwala / Mt. Lavina are just a bit south of the capital of Colombo. They are definitely tied to the beach. One of the very first hotels I ever stayed in in Sri Lanka was in that area in 1986. We've somehow avoided it since, always heading to destinations further away.

I think it'd be fun to spend a few days there during this trip. It is a close 'city beach resort'. By the sounds it may have undergone massive building during the real estate boom of the middle of the decade. Now that real estate speculation has cooled down a bit, perhaps it'd be a good time to go apartment hunting!
