This photo is not new, but shows a scene in 'my' Tipperary Park as mentioned in yesterday's blog entry. New Westminster's
Parks and Recreation Department has even made use of my photo on its web site. The Friendship Garden area contains an early attempt at allowing an
urban stream to see the light of day. Nowadays, attempts at restoration are fairly common here, and in the salmon-bearing streams in BC and the Pacific Northwest.
The garden and stream area was built in 1963 as a tribute to New Westminster's Sister City of Moriguchi, Japan. It was created because Hurricane "Freda" had blown down most of the trees in that section of Tipperary Park the previous year.
