Day 038 of Our Winter: I am lucky for many reasons. I quite often realize what an interesting story my life is. Today, I get to devote a whole journal post to simply getting a haircut. Whereas others have demands even during retirement, my haircut was the centerpiece of activity of the morning. It didn't seem like a necessary chore but more of an adventure.
I needed to get the sides of my head shaved again. It seems as though it surely grew fast. I am fairly successful in limiting my time in a barber chair to only four or perhaps five times in a year. And as we are generally in a different place when it has to be done, I need to find a new place to have it cut.
I noticed a men's salon just down the road from the Minuwangoda house.
We had to walk just a few hundred meters from the house rather than taking a trip all the way into town. Jay often comments on how this neighbourhood has so many new houses. One consequence of having more people in an area is that they require services. This gives an opportunity for folks to create new businesses. Jay came along and snapped a few pictures. This shop was small with just a single chair and this one barber.
But the guy was meticulous. My hair isn't much work as I simply have the edges and back cut using a No. 1 clipper attachment. However, he did a great job of finding the lines where it was edged before. He spent a lot of time with different size clippers and brushes cutting away tiny bits. It didn't take long but it was obvious he was into the small details.
He asked for 400 Sri Lankan rupees but we ensured he got a 100 rupee tip too. At today's exchange rate that is around $US 1.62.
