We sort of lucked out. When we were looking for a condo apartment we were most concerned about price, location, view, and amenities. In the middle of summer, all those years ago, we most probably didn't consider ensuring a southern exposure. On a week in December where the temperatures have kept untypically near freezing, the direction is important too. It improves my mood somewhat more than it reduces the amount heating required.
I love our place as it receives direct sunshine, if there is any, for almost the entirety of a winter day. Yet, during spring and summer the sun rises more directly above so we don't get unwanted heat. It's nearly perfect.
