In Canada there are two credit rating agencies: Equifax and TransUnion. By law, each must provide, upon request, a free report by post. It might not contain 'the magic score' but verifying every entry is important. I guess no one should be surprised that their websites make it extremely hard to locate the information for doing so. These companies would much rather you pay for immediate access to their online information.
We had the time, patience, and extra stamps. I thought that we had generally checked with only Equifax in the past. In fact, in the report which arrived today from TransUnion, I could verify that we'd never requested a consumer copy from them.
I didn't find any surprises and I don't care that they are missing some data. Surprisingly, they did know that I first got an American Express green card in 1985. I'd sort of forgotten about that myself! I just wanted to ensure that nobody had recently applied for a dozen new cards and a mortgage in my name.
