Being primarily desert, it is amazing how much agriculture the Nile Valley and Delta make possible. According the Wikipedia: Cotton, rice, wheat, corn, sugarcane, sugar beets, onions, tobacco, and beans are the principal crops. We know firsthand that most every fruit and vegetable we've consumed this winter has been grown locally.
Today's garlic is rather fresh and very pungent. In fact, when buying bakery products today, the sales guy suggested I not put his products in the same bag as our garlic as it'd affect the taste before we got home.
