Getting back to the basics comes as a very welcome part of retired life. I've always maintained that errands are the things that make up life, and that they should be savoured and enjoyed. Well today, we did some grocery shopping. Although we can pick up most everything we need in the little shops on this side of the river, it is nice to go over to Luxor's East Bank.
We primarily buy a lot of items when we go over to two supermarkets on Television Street. First, we need to walk to the public ferry on this side of the river. The trip across is always pleasant and then we can walk a few shortcut roads to get to Regab & Sons and Kheir Zaman. Both these establishments accept credit cards so we needn't use our ATM as often. We brought several large, tough, reusable supermarket bags from Vancouver. We fill them with heavy items and up til now the handles have stayed intact. I'd guess today we each carried 5 or 6 kilos.
By the time we got back here, we had walked about five kilometers. That is good exercise and it makes my fitness tracker happy. Today was warmer than last week but it was a bit dusty in the morning. Also, many farmers burn old vegetation and that added some smoke to the air as there was next to no wind. It is nice to have been here long enough to see changes during the months.
This morning, we had the chance to get out, get some exercise, buy some necessities, and enjoy the experience. This is what not having to punch a clock really means to me. I am loving it.
