"Hey, sometimes I forget we are retired. Scheduling a road trip poses no work conflicts. The problem with staying in the province of BC, is a road trip can take days and require traveling hundreds or even thousands of miles. Open the BC Driving Guide."
That prompted me to do a little research on the village of Bella Coola, BC. The only time we were there, we slept through it! It was a night-stop on a BC Ferry that was going from Port Hardy, over on the northern tip of Vancouver Island, to Prince Rupert on the northern coast. I cannot believe how expensive travelling on BC Ferries has become. Their website gave me a bit of a fright! It is most definitely too expensive for us to take along our vehicle nowadays.
Anyway, one has to pass through the Chilcotin on the way to Bella Coola. It is a part of the province we've never visited. Fortunately, the distance is only 1000 km, so if we go and come back by road it will make for a trip of only a bit over 1200 miles. That's a relatively short trip in this province.
Another reason that it is a must visit place is because of BC Highway 20 and a small dirt section called, "The Hill". This is what the Bella Coola website has to say about it. That sent me scrambling to YouTube. I watched a number of clips such as this one. In one of them the guy driving is heading down a stretch with an 18% grade and says, "Awesome."
